Maxwell This was a rural post office established June 27, 1905 with Lafayette Maxwell pm at his home in SE 1/4 Sec. 20-148-79, Medicine Hill Twp., nine miles NE of Turtle Lake. Maxwell is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning from Maccus' pool. Macus was an ancient Celtic character whose name is derived from Marcus, in turn derived from Mars, the Roman god of war, whose name means hammer. the post office was discontinued December 31, 1912 with mail to Turtle Lake. |
