Mercer This NPRR station was founded in 1905 in SW 1/4 Sec. 2-146-79, Mercer Twp., and named for William Henry Harrison Mercer, originally spelled Musser, a native of PA who settled near Painted Woods in 1859 and was a well known rancher in the Missouri River valley for many years. Mercer County is also named for him. The post office was established October 2, 1905 with Nels Oleson pm. The elevation is 1948, the Zip Code is 58559, and a peak population of 250 was reported in both 1930 and 1940. |
