| Eastman This was a rural post office established April 23, 1903 with Ida O. Pace pm, located in the home of her husband, Frank Pace in NW 1/4 Sec. 24-145-79, Park Township, eight miles south of Mercer. This order was rescinded, but Mrs. Pace was again appointed as pm on October 8, 1903, and the facility became a reality. Carl Goessele, who lived just to the west in NE 1/4 sec. 23-145-79, was appointed pm October 13, 1904, but this appointment was rescinded. The post office continued to be at the Pace home until it closed May 31, 1905 with mail to McClusky. It was named for Philip Kimball Eastman (1867-1949), a prominent area pioneer who was the first pm at Wilton. |
