Mowrer This was a rural post office established October 5, 1903 with Mrs. Fred (Estella) Platt pm. It was located in NW 1/4 Sec. 11-149-85, Platt Twp., eight miles NW of Garrison, and eight miles SSW of Douglas. The name was chosen by postal officials with no known local significance. Some have suggested that the name honored Frank Roger Mowrer, who served as the United States Ambassador to Japan, China, Belgium, Ethiopia, Italy and Denmark between 1897-1909. The post office was later moved across the township road to SW 1/4 Sec. 2-149-85, where new pm G.W. Kinney had a country store. The post office closed June 30, 1908 with mail to Douglas. |
