Jeanette This was a farm post office established June 23, 1905 with Peder Romsaas (1846-1939) pm. It was located in SE 1/4 Sec. 3-149-86, Romsaas Twp., eight miles east of Roseglen. The township was named Jeanette at this time, but the origin of the name is unknown. Located in a country store, the post office closed June 30, 1908 with mail to Oscar. All known postmarks from this post office are spelled Jeannette, and this spelling also is used on several maps, so it is debatable which spelling is correct. The site today is a military installation built in 1961 to control several underground missiles in the area. |
