Coleharbor This Soo Line RR townsite was founded in 1904 in NW 1/4 Sec. 23-147-83, Victoria Twp., and named for Soo line RR official W. A. Cole, with a reference to the historic Missouri River port of Coal Harbor, seven miles WSW of here. The Coal Harbor post office, in fact, moved here on October 1, 1905, keeping the old name which was the source of much confusion. Finally, pm John W. Vogel adopted the station name of Coleharbor on January 1, 1923. The Zip Code is 58531, and the peak population of 315 was reported in 1950 at the height of construction activity on the nearby Garrison Dam. In recent years the little village has again enjoyed some economic growth as Lake Sakakawea increases as a recreational area |
