State Historical Society of North Dakota is the official state archives, and acquires and preserves all types of research materials relating to North Dakota and the Northern Great Plains.  Some of this material includes manuscript collections, books, periodicals, maps, newspapers, audio and video materials, and photographs.

Library of Congress Local History and Genealogy Reading Room
This is the site for the Local History and Genealogy Reading Room at the Library of Congress.  The Library's genealogy collection began as early as 1815 when Thomas Jefferson's library was purchased. The Library of Congress has more than 40,000 genealogies and 100,000 local histories. The collections are especially strong in North American, British Isles, and German sources.

National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
