Sorenson, S. A.
Time: 1880 - 1920
Place: Sherwood, Renville, ND

SHORT, Josie born McNAMARA, Joseph Ann
Time: 1885 - 1885
Place: Mohall, Renville, ND
I am looking for the marriage record of
Joseph Ann (Josie) McNamara and Conrad Short.
Josie was born in IL, in 1864. She married
Conrad Short about 1885. Conrad Short worked
on the railroad. A Crookston Times article c 1902/3
states she had been living with Conrad in Portal, ND
when he left for the Yukon Territory in 1899.
When she never heard from him she divorced him
and filed a Homestead Claim in Equality Township,
Red Lake County, MN in 1902. Conrad returned
sometime in 1902 to Portal, and went to the
Post Office to find where she was. Her brother
was the Postmaster of the Portal Post Office,
and informed him that she thought he was dead.
A book "A History of Red Lake County" states this
"Con married Josie McNamara who had lived in Mohall, ND.
CORBIN, Eugene
Time: 1907 - 1914
Place: Norma, Renville, ND
"Gene" or "Crutch" Corbin as he was known lived in Norma, N.D. in 1914.
The nickname "Crutch" was because he had a leg that was crippled
in some way and he used one crutch to walk. His wife's name was
Pauline (formerly Hoff) and his children were Otto, Robert, Ruth and
Eugene Corbin. "Gene" died in a house fire in Norma, N.Dak. in the Spring of 1914.
If anyone has any information, it would be much appreciated.
My father was Otto Corbin who owned Corby's in Bottineau and Gene
was my Grandfather. I have been looking for information about my
Grandfather for many years. I believe there was a newspaper in Norma
in 1914, and it may have carried the story of the house fire.
My Grandfather may also be buried around Norma. I expect the grave
would be unmarked or the marker might be hard to read at this point.
I believe his date of death was May 15, 1914, but I could be wrong about
the month and day. Any help would be appreciated.

BRUUN, Carl Marinus
Time: 1873 - 1902
Place: Mohall, Renville, ND
Searching for descendants/ancestors of Carl MarinusBRUUN/BRAUN/BROWN,
my great grandfather, b. August 16, 1873, Denmark.
Does anyone know what happened to the BRAUN family after Carl's death in
1925? He and Elmer are the only ones buried in the family plot in Lansford
Cemetery.
Who do I contact to inquire on the records of the Bethesda Danish Evangelical
Lutheran Church? Where is/was the church located?
Do you know someone who would be interested in selling me a copy of the Renvill
County Historical Book 1901-1976?
INFORMATION I KNOW:
His parents/family were:
Robert Peter and Caroline BRUUN. Pictures of Robert/Caroline BRUUN
taken in Odense, Denmark in 1909. Also several pictures of Carl,
brother S. Peter and wife Hanne, sister Anna (ZILMER/ZELMER), and a
picture labeled my father, Carl Marinus BRUUN, my step-mother Christiana
and half-brothers Anton and Alvin, ages abt 1 & 3.
Carl Bruun immigrated to the U.S. in June 1901 through the port of New
York City from Denmark. I believe they lived in the Mohall or Lansford,
ND and/or McKinney or Hamerly Townships.
The "Renville County History: 1901-1976" lists:
Mr. and Mrs. Carl BRAUN as charter members of Bethesda Danish
Evangelical Lutheran Church (which was chartered in 1902/1903); and Carl
Marinus BRUUN listed as a first land owner in McKinney, Renville County
TWP 161-86. SW 1/4 of (Sec. 12).
The 1920 Census Hamerly Township, Renville Co., ND lists the family of
Carl and Christiana BRUUN as:
BRUUN, Carl M. : Head of household; he owned his home and it was
mortgaged.
He is married, white, age 46, immigrated to US in 1901; filed first
papers 1902, Minot, Ward Co., USA, naturalized citizen in 1908, born in
Denmark as were his parents, could speak English, and was a farmer.
BRUUN, Christiana married to Carl M., white, age 35, immigrated to US in
1901, naturalized 1908, could read and write, born in Denmark as were
her parents, homemaker.
Their childen:
BRUUN, Anton: son, age 16, worked on his father's farm; BRUUN, Alvin:
son, age 14, worked on his father's farm; BRUUN, Lester: son, age 12;
BRUUN, Emma: daughter, age 9; BRUUN, Harry: son, age 7; BRUUN, Elmer:
son, age 5; BRUUN, David: son, age 1 1/12.
Elmer P. BRAUN, son of Carl and Christiana BRAUN was born July 28, 1914,
and died March 3, 1920, of pneumonia following the flu. He is buried in
Lansford Cemetery, Bottineau Co., ND.
Carl M. BRAUN died at 51; stomach cancer; Minot, ND hospital July 3,
1925; prominent area farmer. He is buried in Lansford Cemetery,
Bottineau Co., ND in a family plot with his son Elmer P. BRAUN. Large
family stone BRAUN and two smaller stones of Carl Braun and Elmer Braun.
Carl Braun's obituary said he was survived by his wife and 8 children
which means there was probably another child born after 1920 and before
Carl Braun's death in 1925.
My grandmother Chjoldvor BRUUN/BROWN was born to Carl Marinus BRUUN and
Martha BERNTSEN in September 26, 1896, in Faxse hade plads, Shjelland,
Denmark. My great grandparents, Carl and Martha were never married. My
grandmother, Chjoldvor BRUUN, came to the U.S. abt. 1916 to join her
father and his family in North Dakota. She found them and later met my
grandfather, John Alexander WOODS there. They married December 1917 in
Cambridge, Story Co., IA, USA. None of my grandmother's children from
her marriage to John Woods (5) ever met their grandfather or his
children (their aunts and uncles). There are still two surviving
children to Chjoldvor BRUUN/BROWN and John WOODS. Would like to make
contact with any descendants of Carl Marinus BRUUN or information on
ancestors -- please. Special note should be made that the BRUUN/BRAUN
and BROWN names were all used by this family after immigrating to the
U.S. My father, Robert Brown WOODS, was named for his great grandfather,
Robert Peter BRUUN.
STORING, Charles
Time: 1890 - 1910
Place: Sherwood, Renville, ND
Charles was the husband of Mary KELLER. They were married in Minnesota in 1868.
Mary was born in Jefferson County New York state in about 1844 or 1845.
I assume that Charles was about the same age and his occupation was probably farming.
She was reported to be residing in Sherwood in 1910 in the obituary of a sister.
I don't know if they had children.
