About the North Dakota AHGP Project
Richland County history
Richland County, in the southeast corner of North Dakota, was established 4 January 1873 and organized 25 November 1873. It was an original county. It's county seat was placed at Chahinkapa, since renamed to Wahpeton. The county was named in honor of Morgan T Rich (1832-1898), a pioneer of the county. The county comprises 1449 square miles. It had a peak population in 1930. Census records are available from 1880 to 1930.
