A law requiring registration of births and deaths was enacted in 1893 but repealed in 1895, then reenacted in 1899. However, the law was not well-complied with in the early years and registration was not considered complete until 1923.

The museum is located on The Historical Society is currently restoring the last
remaining Martineau house that was built in 1899. They have plans to move a building to the museum site that
will be used as a pioneer blacksmith shop.
