History of photographers in Jamestown and Stutsman County

Notes were kept on the changing of photographers in Jamestown, while indexing obits in early Jamestown newspapers. Those notes, plus the use of censuses, and especially the use of existing Jamestown City Directories, were used to generate a list of photographers for the purpose of helping to date old photos taken in Jamestown. Headings in the database used to store information contained: name of studio, date, address, name of owner or operator.

What follows below, is an alphabetical list of photographers, listed again if the address was changed, such as what happened when street names and numbers were changed in Jamestown in 1939. If the printed advertisment on your old portrait contains the address, you have a better chance of narrowing the time period during which it was taken.
