WALLACE KOHLER MCNAMEE
Wallace K. McNamee, 84, Hood River, OR, formerly Fargo, ND and Billings, MT, died June 9, 2000, in Desert Hot Springs, CA. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Wallace Kohler McNamee was born Jan 29, 1916, the ninth child of James and Anna (Kohler) McNamee in Hillsboro, ND. Wally, as he was known to friends and family, graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1933, where he was a four-sport athlete and an all-state football player. As a young man, he attended the University of North Dakota, served in Army National Guard and was a Golden Gloves boxer.
He married Ethel Hausman, also of Hillsboro, Jan 20, 1938. They lived in Grand Forks, ND. and Fargo, where Wally was the general superintendent of several road construction companies: Butler Construction, William Collins and Son and Meyer Construction. His main interest was his family, and he was an active hunter, fisherman and downhill skier. A long-time sports fan, he also spent many years in the bleachers watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wally was a life-long member of the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Church of the Nativity Catholic Church in Fargo, and St. Mary's of the Lakes, Detroit Lakes.
He is survgived by his wife; three daughters, Toni Nippolt, Hood River, OR; Beth (John) Fox, Stevensville, MT; Mary McNamee Billings, MT; son, Wally (Linda) McNamee, Billings, MT, son-in-law Gary (Roberta) Woodcock, Minneapolis, MN; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” Woodcock.
