Sometime before the 1880 census, my great-grandfather, Ellend Anderson Aase came from Worth County IA to Washington Twp to homestead. He was a single man and a farmer. My great-grandmother, Emma Bertina Johnson, (and her family?) also came she was 18 years old in 1880. They were married in Mayville, Traill Co on 21 November 1880. They had several children there. My grandmother, Caroline Bertina Aase was born in Hatton, Traill Co. on 29 Sep 1884. In 1900 the family moved to Roseau Co, MN.
My grandmother worked in both Hatton and Northwood as a clerk when she was older, so I suspect there were relatives still in the area. I have never found a record for my 2-g grandparents, Olai and "Susan" Johnson, both born in Norway, were Emma's parents. Ellend was an orphan although he had several relatives in Worth County, IA. I found Emma's parents names on her death certificate. Her birthplace was listed IL in all the census and in 1910, her brother "Tinnus" Johnson, b.1864 was living with
the family. Ellend was the enumerator for that census.
As it is difficult to find copies of the North Dakota records, any information on the family would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in the deed for Ellend's homestead and my grandmother's birth/baptism record. I believe the family attended St. John's Lutheran Church.
I would appreciate any information I could get on my their family. I do not know if Emma's parents moved to the area at the same time as she did.
(FIRST1) Emma B. Johnson, (FIRST2) Ellend Anderson Aase, (FIRST3) Olai Johnson, (FIRST4) Susan Johnson, (FIRST5) Caroline B. Aase, (FIRST6) "Tinnus" Johnson

Halvor & Ragnhild Halvorson, b. Norway, settled Mayville, ND 1880 with 3yr. old son Herman (his baptismal cert. said Helmet, obituary said Herman and 1900 census in Yellow Medicine county, MN after he married, said Halvor) Herman grew to manhood there and went to school in that area. I think they were farmers so may have lived near Mayville. M. Inger Johnson, p. Canby, MN d. March 28, 1898.

I am trying to find out how I may obtain an obit on my great-aunt who died in 1929. I have her death cerificate, but I find that the obits provides a wealth of information on the family survivors. She died in Portland, Steel county, North Dakota on 12/15/29 and is buried in the Bang Lutheran Church Cemetary. Was there a newspaper who may have carried an obit?
Also, I will be traveling to North Dakota this summer (from North Carolina) and plan to visit the museum in Hope. Do you know the hours for the Museum?
Thanks for any help ypu can provide.

I am looking for descendants of David Falconer and Mary Brown. They came
to Kelso in 1878 from Bruce County, Ontario, Canada and stayed until
November of 1889, when they left for Sacramento, California. Their
children, all born in Ontario, were, George born 1853,Ellen Stenson born
1858, married Deforrest Conant, Mary born 1858, married Charles Conant,
Janet born 1860, married William Scott, Margaret born 1864, married John
H. Johnson, David born 1867 and John Wilson born 1870. We have the line
of Ellen and Deforrest Conant. They moved back into Canada. Their
descendants are found in BC and Alberta. We would be very interested in
any information in regards to the descendants of any of the other
children. We have not found where David and Mary eventually went. David
is one of ten children of George Falconer and Janet Redpath. The Redpath
name is found frequently among the other branches and may also be found
in David's family. All information and inquiries welcome.

ERIKSON
thompson Thu Jun 5 15:46:12 1997
My grandfather, Erik Eriksen (Rasten) died 1949 at the Arthur Good Old Folks
home in Cass County, ND. Erik lived for some unknown years prior to death in Hillsboro, ND.
I have been unable to find any info about him in ND other than death certificate and obituary. I've written funeral home, cemetary (in
Hillsboro), city of Hillsboro and the president of the Sons of Norway in Hillsboro -- nothing on Erik. Any suggestions?
Erik used the surname Erikson in North Dakota. He immigrated from Norway in 1905 to Minneapolis using the surname Rasten, a train station in Stor Elvdal
parish, Hedmark, Norway near where he was born. He worked on the railroads in Norway. Sometime after 1908 he deserted his Minneapolis family and
disappeared -- only to show up on a North Dakota death certificate.
Any help appreciated!

I am searching for any information on Andrew LEEN and Clara LYBACK.
I have found them in Hatton, ND (Traill County) in the 1910 census. The name was spelled LIEN at that time. The information from the census is as follows:
Andreas O. Lien - Age 35 - Immigrated from Norway in 1883
Clara - Age 35 - Married 13 years
Hilda C. - Age 12
Rudolph - Age 9
Olga - Age 8
Karina - Age 6
Paulina - Age 5
Hanne - Age 3
Palmer - Age 1 1/2
I know that they moved to homestead in Mizpah, MN sometime after 1911,
but don't know much else about them. I would appreciate any information
on them.
Thanks,

LEEN family - Garfield Township - Hatton, ND
I have been searching for information on:
Andrew O. Leen who married Clara Lybeck most likely in Traill County in about the year of 1897.
They both came to the U.S. from Norway - I don't know where in Norway yet.
If anyone has access to searchable records and could look up information on their marriage, I would really appreciate it.
I have located them in Hatton, ND. Garfield Township, in the U.S. 1910 census. Their name was spelled LIEN in the Census, and I originally thought that perhaps they had changed their name from Lien to Leen. I have since gotten a copy of the birth certificate for Palmer Leen and it has the name spelled as Leen.
They eventually moved to Mizpah, MN and farmed there. I don't know the exact date of their move to minnesota, but know that it was prior to 1922.
Again if anyone has any information or can give me a clue as to where to search next, I would appreciate it.
Thank You, Gayle

GUTTRUD, Anna, Eric, Clara
I am looking for any information available on these three people
by the last name of GUTTRUD. Their first names are Anna, Eric and
Clara. They are listed in the 1900 ND Census as being in West
Antelope Township in Benson County. They are shown to be living
with a Helmer J. HANSON. My great grandmother and my grandfather
came to ND from Norway in approx. 1885. They changed their name
to GUTTRUD when they came to this country. Their first names were
Sam & Live. They originally came to Traill County and eventually
wound up in McHenry. I am trying to determine if there is a
connection between them and these three Guttruds. On the 1900
census, Anna is listed as being 55 years old, Eric as 63, and
Clara was born in Iowa and was listed as 13.
If anyone has any information that could help me I would
appreciate it.

I am trying to find the birth/baptismal records for my grandfather, John
Thomas KELLY Sr. b. 10 July 1879 in Caledonia, Traill Co., ND. Also his
brothers and sisters: Gertrude E. KELLY b. ? Oct. 1883 (mar. Richard C.
McCARTHY in Bossburg, Stevens Co. Wash.15 Jan 1900); Robert Earl Kelly
b.15 Oct 1883, mar. Helen FLY in Spokane, Wash.; Anna KELLY b. @1885,
married ? HERON; Ruth b. 10 May 1890 mar Conrad ELVIGIN in Spokane,
Wash). They were all born in Caledonia, Traill Co., ND. The family
moved to Spokane Wash. in 1897 where their last child Samuel Patrick
KELLY was b.25 Nov 1897, mar Kitty GAUTSCHE, where ? & when ?). The
parents of all these children was Patrick Henry KELLY, b.14 Mar 1851 in
Waterford, Racine Co, Wis. He was supposed to be the third person to
settle in Caledonia in the early 1870's. (I found his name on an early
plat of Caledonia). He married Anna ? Brown (adopted name) b.@ 1861 in
Penn., parents unknown. She was raised by John & Catharine BROWN
(another query for this one).
Anna ? BROWN and Patrick Henry KELLY were mar. 4 Aug. 1878 in Caledonia,
by a JP. Patrick was Catholic, but Anna was Congregationalist - the
children were Catholic, but I can't seem to find A Catholic Church for
that area in order to find the baptismal records and it is to early for
birth records. Patrick's sister & some of his brothers lived in
Caledonia: Elizabeth Kelly (married Charles E. Peterson ? May 1884 in
Caledonia. She was a school teacher (when she died in 1924 she had
taught school longer than any other teacher in North Dakota). Patrick's
brothers, Thomas J. (mar. Jennie Olson in Fargo 27 Dec 1881), William
Andrew m. Elizabeth Cleveland (sister to Dr. Cleveland of Caledonia) mar
15 Oct 1889, Caledonia. Can anyone tell me where I might find the records
for Patrick H. KELLY & Anna ? BROWN'S children's births? I have more
info. on the family but need proof of the births of my grandfather and
his siblings. Thank you!

My great-grandmother Anna ? BROWN (adopted name - no legal adoption found). Anna was born in Penn. @1861 and family tradition is that her family died in a fire and she was adopted by John & Catharine BROWN. I found her listed in the 1870 census for Caledonia, Houston Co. Minn. with the BROWN'S & 'adopted' was written after her name. I have never found a legal adoption. In the mid 1870's the BROWN'S moved to Caledonia, Traill Co. North Dakota. John Brown was a businessman in Caledonia. He died in a buggy accident in 1881 and his wife Catherine m. John FULTON and when he died she married ? HUTCHINSON, all in Caledonia, Traill Co. Anna married my great-grandfather Patrick Henry Kelly 4 Aug. 1878 in Caledonia. They resided there until the Summer of 1897 when they moved to Spokane, Wash. where she died 26 Feb. 1899. Family tradition says Anna Brown was 1/2 Indian and 1/2 Penn. Dutch (German). In the 1885 ND census she lists her parents as born in Penn & New York. Where as the BROWN"S were both born in Scotland. Was she an Orphan Train rider? How did the BROWN'S get her? (see the Query for KELLY for info. on the children of Anna ? BROWN & Patrick Henry KELLY). Anyone have a similar story or know where I can find out who Anna ? BROWN really is? I have tried finding her in the Houston Co. MINN. newspapers, but they are incomplete and I didn't find anything on her. Many Thanks! Alice Finnegan

I am searching for information on the Traill family. I think that Walter John Strickland Traill is the son of Thomas Traill and Catherine Parr Strickland who emigrated to Canada in 1832. I would like to know when Walter John Strickland Traill moved to North Dakota. Who did he marry and the names and birth dates of his children. In all honesty I would be most appreciative to learn any thing about W.J.S. Traill. Thank you.
