I am searching on behalf of my grandmother's cousin....her father's name was John Francis GAUGHRAN (7/12/1888-6/13/1948). She remembers him saying he moved east (New Jersey) from Mayville, South Dakota...I could not find a Mayville in S.Dakota, only in North Dakota. John's parents' names were Richard and Sarah Jane GAUGHRAN, and he had siblings by the names of Ben, Amelia, and Polly GAUGHRAN. She believes the family came to the US during Ireland's potato famine (1845-1850). This would mean that Richard's parents were probably the ones who originally came from Ireland. I checked the 1900 census for Traill County, both Mayville and Mayville Twp., but had no luck at all. Can anyone help? Thanks!

"I am looking for information about Ole Severin OLSTAD, born Nov 6, 1852, baptized Mar 13, 1853 in Sollien church in Norway. I believe Ole is the eldest brother of my grandfather, Severin OLSTAD who immigrated to U.S. in May 1882. Severin lived most of his life in Mayville, ND. Ole's name appears as a witness on my grandfather's naturalization papers. I can find no trace of Ole Severin OLSTAD in Norway after his baptism, but have seen an Ole OLSTAD listed on ND census records. If anyone has any information on the OLSTAD family, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for your help"
My Response:
My great great grandfather was Ole OLSTAD. The OLSTAD's immigrated from Norway to Galesburg,Traill County, North Dakota.

I have a postcard that was sent by Arthur A. in 1911 from Buxton, North Dakota. The photograph on the front of the postcard is of a store. The year 1899 inscribed on the dormer of the building. One is possibly Arthur A.
