My grandfather Thomas Charles CAIN was born 9/17/1889 in Genoa, Nance Co., NE to Thomas Charles and Helen (IRWIN) CAIN. I would appreciate any information on either the CAIN's or the IRWIN's. Helen was the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth IRWIN who moved to Nebraska from Galena, IL. I have a little info on my Great Great Grandfather who was John McDonough WALKER. He was involved with local politics in nearby Lindsay, Nebraska. In fact he named this small town. He had the first homestead at the north end of Shell Creek. I know this is in Platte County but I thought you may have some records that show he was also involved in the history of Boone County. He came to this part of Nebraska in 1870 from McGregor, Iowa. I know he was originally born in Fermandugh County, Ireland - March 6, 1826 and moved to Canada with his father in 1830. At age 20 he came to U.S. and fought in Mexican-American war in U.S. Army. His wifes maiden name was Catherine McCARTHY. He was very much involved with the politics of the local area serving as a County Commissioner as well as some sort of state legislater. He retired to Humphrey, Neb. in 1888 and died there Oct. 8, 1907 or possibly 1904. Again, I know most of his life was lived out in nearby Lindsay and Humphrey but I was hoping you might have some additional info next door in Boone County. I also know he was close to the Franciscan Monks in the area possibly near Columbus. He was Catholic and worked closely with the Franciscans, perhaps they may have some info on him. Anything please would be helpful. Please email me asap.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there who knows of the Henry C. MEISNER and Susan BARGER family. Is he listed in a "BOONE COUNTY ATLAS"? I know that they occassionally did short biographies of early people of the county. Is there one for him or one of his sons? Henry C. MEISNER was born in Holzthaleben, Germany, in February, 1827. He immigrated to the U.S. about 1845. He became a naturalized citizen in 1851 while in Harrison Co., Indiana. He and Susan had 8 children. The family moved to Sheridan Co., Nebraska, to homestead in 1890, (near Gordon). He had left Indiana for Nebraska in 1884. He later, after homesteading in Sheridan Co., left there and went to Elgin, Nebraska about 1899-1900. He returned to Indiana (Harrison Co.) about 1905. He died there on 16 November, 1914. Susan returned to Nebraska to live near her sons and died in Petersburg, Boone Co., in 1916. The children were:
Sarah E. MEISNER born 27 November, 1856. Married Joel F. RUSSELL.
Mary D. MEISNER born 18 January, 1858. Married John H. CONRAD.
John Edward MEISNER born in 1859. Married Elizabeth E. NEELY (2) Maria WERNER.
Martin Henry MEISNER born 2 November, 1861. Married Geneva BYRUM.
Elizabeth C. MEISNER born 16 October, 1863. Married Perry M. DAVIS.
George Benjamin MEISNER born 29 July, 1865. Married Alice FICKLE.
Phillip Barger MEISNER born in 1867. Married Effie FICKLE.
Lucy C. MEISNER born in 1868. She died young.
Those traveling in 1884 to Nebraska (from Indiana) with Henry C. MEISNER were: Mary D. MEISNER and husband, John H. CONRAD; John Edward MEISNER and wife, Elizabeth E. NEELY; Martin Henry MEISNER; Elizabeth C. MEISNER and husband, Perry Morton DAVIS; George Benjamin MEISNER; and Phillip Barger MEISNER.
