Crow Butte Cemetery

Sometimes called Harvey Cemetery, Rock Hill Cemetery ,Roby Cemetery or Saw Log Cemetery

The acres where the cemetery is located was homesteaded by J. J. Harvey and he donated these acres for a cemetery.

In recent years Gerald and Alice Lux have repaired the gate. Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Stetson have erected a sign over the gate reading: Harvey Cemetery AKA Crow Butte Cemetery

The Crow Butte Church was Presbyterian. It was served by a traveling minister who also served Horn, NE and Belmont, NE The church building was located in the northeast corner of Sec 19, Township 31, Range 51. The building was moved south a short distance on the Daniels place and used for a farm building. It is barely standing in 2005 .

Cemetery Records published in Wgoner journal - Fall 1978 issue

page 82, Vol I, No. 3

Burials after 1982 have been added to this list

Compiled by Northwest Genealogical Society

Location: On a line between Range 51 & 52, Township 31, Sec. 19, Dawes. Co., Nebr. There are 95 Lots measuring 15 Feet Square.

The Plat shows who owns the lots and whether they have been paid in full, but not always the burials there.

To get there drive south of Crawford on Highway 20 about 3 miles to Squaw Creek Road, turn left (East) and drive about 2 ¼ miles, take first road left. Gate to cemetery is on west side of the cemetery. Or turn East onto West Ash Creek Road, (dirt road) at junction of Annin Street and Highway 71 at about 2 miles turn South onto Crow Butte Road – the cemetery is about 2 miles farther south on East side of the road.

Some graves have wooden markers , no names. Alice Lux (Mrs. Gerald Lux) , keeps the records current at this time in 2005. The following is an alphabetical list of known burials.

In 1987 the 4H Club in the Crow Butte cemetery neighborhood cleaned the cemetery and researched the burials there. The names they found are included in this list. They also replaced the wooden markers with wooden crosses. These are now weathered and falling down.
