WOOLMAN, Myrtle Loniza
Myrtle Loniza Woolman, third of a family of seven children of Alfred and Matilda Johnson Harlan, was born August 19, 1878, near a little town of Gifford in Hardin County, Iowa. She died at 9:45 p.m. September 27, 1965 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 8 days.While yet a baby, her parents moved to Wahoo, Nebraska. Later at the age of two years, she with her parents and two brothers, moved by wagon and team to Furnas County, Nebraska, where her father took a homestead near Arapahoe. They moved to Republican City in 1898 where she married Frank Woolman on December 25, 1900. To this union were born ten children. They made their home on a farm five miles south of Republican City until 1948 when they retired and moved to Republican City. They moved to Alma in 1952 at the time of the construction of the Harlan County Dam. During their residence in Alma, she acquired many new friends. They were both members of the First Methodist Church in Alma, having transferred their membership from Republican City in 1952. During the years of their farm life the family had been active in the church known as the Sod Church in the Pleasant Ridge Community where they took active part in all community affairs.They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December 1960. Her devoted husband died shortly thereafter, being called to his reward on May 8, 1961.She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; two daughters, May and Greta,; one son, Benoit; three grand children, seven great-granchildren; five brothers and one sister.Survivors include three sons; Paul H. of Lakewood, California, Alfred of Moses Lake, Washington and Billy of Saratoga, Calif.; four daughters; Mrs. Beulah Wolfe of Alma with whom she has made her home since she suffered a stroke in 1954; Mrs. Laura Helms of Grover, Colorado, Mrs. Mildred Carpenter of Westminister, Colorado, Mrs. Alice Pangburn of Renton, Washington. She had 32 grandchildren of which 28 survive; 87 great grandchildren of which 80 survive. She leaves three aged sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and a host of other realives and friends. She was loved by all who knew her, admired for her courage and cheerfulness. She had been an invalid for many years, never complaining, always looking to the Lord for strength. She was very alert and of strong courage, enjoying her home and surroundings.Myrtle Harlan was a descendant of the fourth generation of Harlans of which the Senator James Harlan was also a descendant and for whom our Harlan county was named. She was therefore a distant relative of the wife of Mary Eunice Harlan, the senator's daughter, who married Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Lincoln. Mrs. Woolman was life-time member of the Royal Neighbors of America, having acquired her 50 year pin several years ago.Services were held from Zulauf-Banta Funeral Chapel in Alma on Friday, October 1, 1965 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating at the service was Rev. Charles H. Gates. Organist, Mrs. Larry Thiessen accompanied vocalists, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Anderson who sang several selections. Casket bearers were Earl Stone, Dean Stone, Andy Wells, Melton Allen, Jim Horn and Sam Lewis. Final resting place was the Pleasant Ridge Cememtery. Zulauf-Banta Funeral Service of Alma was in charge of arrangements.Out of town relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woolman of Lakewood, California, Billy Woolman of Saratoga, California; Mrs. Alice Pangburn of Renton, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Okly Carpenter, Mrs. Margaret Carpenter of Westminister, Colorado; Mr. and Mrs. Wade Helms of Grover, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herman of St. Francis, Kansas; Rex Wolfe and John Reinig of Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. Del Wolfe, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. George Stevenson and children from Manhattan, Kans.; Mrs. Frank McNelis of Grand Island and S-Sgt. and Mrs. Orville Gaffney and family of Holdrege. Notes: 1. Newspaper printed Myrtle's middle name as Loniza, is should read "Louisa".


WOOLMAN, Paul Harlan
Paul Harlan Woolman, 84 of Camp Verde, AZ died on March 30, 1990. He was a retired road foreman from California. Paul was one of ten children born to Frank and Myrtle (Harlan) Woolman on Dec. 29, 1905 near Republican City, Nebr. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by one son, Frank, his parents, sisters Maye, Beulah and Greta; brothers Benoit and Alfred. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, one son, Clarence and wife, Edna of Las Vegas, Nev, one daughter, Beulah, and husband Charles Kidney of Cottonwood, AZ; sisters Laura Helms of St. Francis, KS, Mildred Carpenter, and husband Okly, of St. George, KS, Alice Pangburn of Renton, WA and one brother, Billy, and wife Cleota of Saratoga, Calif.; also 15 grandchildren, 27 great-greatgranchildren.Funeral services were held Tues., April 3 in Camp Verde. Internment was in Resthaven Memorial Park, Phoenix, AZ. (Name and date of paper not available.)
