Purpose..."Our concern for the future too quickly casts a shadow over the things of the past. People, generally, do not care so much for the things of the past, its achievements and failures, as they do about the opportunities and allurements of the future. However anxiously we may be rushing on for the things of the future, let us understand that we cannot detach ourselves from the past. Every one filleth a niche in the bulwarks of time, and each generation buildeth a stepping-stone between the two eternities."

--Rev. C. H. Frady of Billings Montana ...taken from Chapter 38 of the History of Antelope County 1868-1883 A. J. Leach , page 217

Bio... My own family ties to Keith County go back to the early 1900s, when my maternal grandfather's parents settled near Keystone, after immigrating from the Volga River region of Russia. The property that they purchased is still in the family today, and remains a small, working cattle ranch, with my grandmother living in the original house... with a few modifications, of course.

Keith county was organized in 1873 from unorganized territory. In 1877 it was split in approximately half and the southern part became Perkins county. It is bordered on the north by Arthur County, on the northeast by McPherson County, on the east by Lincoln County, on the south by Perkins County, on the southwest by Sedgwick County, Colorado on the west by Deuel County, and on the northwest by Garden County.

About the USGenWeb Project... In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

In June, as the Kentucky project was nearing completion, it was decided to start a page for each of the remaining states, and as with the Kentucky project, volunteers were found to host the state pages. If the state in which you are interested does not have a page and you wish to be responsible for it, or if you would like to contribute your data or create a county page within a given state, contact the person responsible for maintaining that state and/or county.

This website is dedicated to the memory of my Grandpa, who spent his life working and loving the land of Keith County.

In Loving Memory
Fred Gies
March 20, 1910 -- March 02, 2000

God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

On behalf of myself and all the volunteers of Keith County NEGenWeb, I wish to extend both our heartfelt sympathy and deepest gratitude to the family of Captain Ford. We will remember your sacrifice and strive to be worthy. We cannot know your loss, but we grieve with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his brethren (John 15:13)
