Alyce approached me via email and offered to transcribe and share her mother's, (Maxine), work with other Keith County researchers. These transcripts are currently comprised of delinquent tax records for Keith County, spanning the years 1909 through 1927. (You can view these transcripts at Tax Records). Thanks, Alyce, for sharing your mother's legacy and bringing an unusual and helpful resource to Keith County researchers. --Susan Anderson, July 2002
![]() | I was born and raised in Ogallala, Keith County, NE. My parents, Virgil ‘Butch’ Madison and Maxine Lee were also born in Keith County. My maternal grandfather, Emery Lee, was born in Furnas County, NE, and raised in Madrid, Perkins County, NE. His father, Rue Lee, and mother, Martha Slick, brought their little family across country in a covered wagon from Indiana. They settled and increased the family, and today you will still find many of the Lee family members in Perkins and Keith counties today. Emery’s wife, Sadie F. Shuler, was born in South Dakota to Samuel R. Shuler and Mary Loretta McKinney who came across country from Pennsylvania. My paternal grandfather, Herbert Madison, was born in Iowa and brought to Fillmore County, NE as a young man by his parents, Henry C. Madison and Mary E. Hurst. Herbert Madison married Dottie Pickerill of Fillmore County and they homesteaded at Whitetail where they raised their family. Dottie was the daughter of William Pickerill and Lizzie Flick, who moved from Woodford County, IL to Fillmore County in 1875. All the families were involved in farming and ranching. |
