Her mother died when she was 7 years old, and she was placed in orphanage with 3 siblings. Later was adopted. Married Richard L. Johnson in 1954 at Central City; they lived near Clarks. Worked for many years to reunite with her siblings. Service: 17 Dec at United Methodist Church, Clarks with burial at Pierce Chapel. Survived by husband, a son and two daughters, a sister. Predeceased by a son (Glen "Charlie") and two brothers, Fred Sheele and Bill Hill.

Betty (Gregg) Saba, Former Merrick County Resident
      Betty Katherine Saba, 81, of Kentfield, California, died at the Vintage Estates of Kentfield on Tuesday, October 1, 2002. Funeral Services were officiated by Reverend Jim Myers and held at the Russell and Gooch Funeral Home in Mill Valley, California, on Friday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m. Burial was in the Olivet Memorial Park at Colma, California.
     Betty was born on August 12, 1921, to Arthur and Dorothy (Dexter) Gregg. She grew up on the family farm in Mead Township obtaining her elementary education at District #33 and was a member of the 1938 Central City High School graduating class. Betty graduated from Saint Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island, Nebraska, and served her country during World War II as an U.S. Army Nurse stationed in the states. She was the first registered nurse from the Central City area to enlist with the armed forces.
      On June 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to John Thomas Baker.
     Following his death, she married Walter Saba on October 17, 1949. Betty continued to pursue her nursing profession at Stanford Hospital while living in San Francisco most of her adult life. During her retirement years, she resided in Mill Valley.
     Survivors include one son, two grandchildren, a sister, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
     Preceding her in death were her husbands, her parents, and one brother, Bill Gregg.

Farmed in Nance and Merrick. Service: 3 May at Solt Funeral Home, Central City, NE. Burial at "Pierce Chapel", Clarks adjacent to his wife who died in 1989, and an infant daughter, Patricia. Survived by two sons and their families. All three of his sisters are deceased.
