Nim Chalfant was not Carrie's second husband. Her father's name was Ole Englebretson. Apparently at the time of her marriage she followed the Norwegian custom of using one's father's (given) name as a surname. I've encountered the same pattern with my own Norwegian ancestors.

The early marriages of Nance County were on loose pages stored in the basement of the Nance County courthouse.

They had not been bound - it was a few years ago when a clerk retrieved them for me.

The marriages have now been microfilmed and as of a couple months ago, can be viewed at NE State Historical Society,
