Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. WAKEFIELD, Neb. -- Helen E. Meier, 77, of Wakefield died Fri., Apr. 7, 2006, at her residence. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. CROFTON, Neb. -- Dorothy J. "Dora" Tramp, 92, of Crofton died Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Yankton, S.D. Services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Walter "Wally" Samuel Knudsen, 21, of Sioux City died Oct. 9, 1944 from traumatic injuries sustained when his B-24D bomber crashed southwest of Lae, New Guinea, during World War II. His remains were recently discovered and returned home for burial. Graveside services with military rites will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Born April 23, 1923, in Goodwin, Neb., the youngest of three children born to Samuel and Hanna (Pedersen) Knudsen. Walter attended Central High School and graduated June 5, 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 23, 1941, and was assigned to the 8th Air Squadron Air Service Group. Survivors include his loving brothers, Harold Knudsen and John and Howard Knox; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter is preceded in death by his mother and father; stepfather, John Knox; and beloved sister, Clara. Selma M. Berger, 92, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Selma M. Berger was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Seward, Neb., the daughter of Conrad and Sophia (Meyer) Ringler. She attended Sioux City schools. Married Clarence Berger in 1943 in the Leeds area of Sioux City. Clarence passed away on Aug. 3, 1981, in Sioux City. Survivors include two sons and their wives, six daughters; a sister; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- James M. Bennett, 83, of South Sioux City died Friday, April 14, 2006, following a lengthy illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in South Sioux City. James M. Bennett was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Newcastle, Neb., the son of James and Susan (Dougherty) Bennett. He grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School. He then attended Wayne State College. Married Mary E. Bakken on May 12, 1947, in Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Lowe, Esther Crombie and Eileen Kneifl; and seven brothers, Isadore, Lawrence, Raymond, Melvin, Robert, Levi and Leslie. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Corrine F. Thacker, 81, of West Okoboji, Iowa, formerly of South Sioux City, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, in Milford, Iowa. Eva was born May 11, 1917, in Pender, Neb., the daughter of Daniel and Elsie (Shreve) Matney. Married Irvin P. Baker in October 1937.
