Nebraska Census Information
General information on availability of census data for Nebraska is available from the Nebraska State Historical Society. Go to the main page, press on Search and enter Census. Availability and instructions for ordering or visiting the NSHS will be included there.
Early records for Nebraska are also available. State census information in periodicals may be found, again at the NSHS, under Archives.
The 1860 Territorial Census for Otoe County is an online research source, which has been placed in the Nebraska Archives. Otoe County is one of a few that have a preserved record of this census.

A new page with many census links has been made by Emmett Mason, to help researchers find the 1854 and other census records. Although this webpage was created for Nemaha County, Nebraska, it leads to many common areas which include Otoe County census records. Explore this new resource here:
Federal Census information for years later than 1860 must usually be found at repositories such as libraries, the National Archives, etc. CD copies of census films are beginning to be available for purchase from genealogical research services as well. A project is underway for volunteers to manually record the census microfilms, and as these are finished researchers will be able to view them online. Here is a special link to the Otoe County, Nebraska files in the Nebraska Archives files. You can search the index to the "Portrait and Biographical Album of Otoe and Cass Counties", read special contributed material on individuals who lived in Otoe County, and find cemetery records that may not be available elsewhere in the NEGenWeb files. A section on Military includes the names of those who registered for the draft in World War I, and a list of military pensioners in 1883.
