From Oxcarts to Orbits
A Brief History
of Rock County Nebraska
and its People

PREFACE
In attempting to record the history of any community, it is rather difficult in the short time and space allotted to this book to adequately present a complete picture of people and events as they affected the area now known as Rock county.
Many persons have been instrumental in this book being presented. To each must go a vote of thanks for the work they have done. Some rather interesting events have been omitted or shortened because of space limitations. We hope we have most of the important happenings included.
An especial word of thanks must go to Mrs. Neil Tubbs, former teacher in Rock County High School, for permission to use the material she compiled on the history of our county, and to Mrs. Elmer Christensen of Newport, who compiled the history of that area.
And last, but not least, thanks to Mrs. Paul (Bessie) Lanz for the "Wheels of Progress" story of our community. It is a story well told.
