The Nebraska Department of Roads recognized the action of the 1947 Nebraska Unicameral Legislature and named U.S. Highway 6 in Nebraska the Grand Army of the Republic Highway on March 25, 2002. Nebraska now completes the link in U. S. Highway 6 which extends from Massachusetts to California.
The Nebraska Department of Roads has designed the new signs and placed them along the Highway. The size of the signs will be 3 ft by 6 ft, and will easily be seen by the general public. Highway 6 is also designated the Grand Army of the Republic Highway on the new state highway maps.
US Route 6 connects the cities of Omaha, Lincoln, Hastings, Minden, Holdrege, McCook, Imperial, and on to the Colorado border a distance of 375 miles.
