The medieval fireplace in the Museum's new room.

In 2009, the anniversary of the Pilgrims' arrival in Leiden in 1609 will be marked by lectures, concerts, and an exhibition about the Pilgrims' publishing adventures. Preparations for these events are underway. Information about these and other commemorative events in Leiden will be posted on this website.

The Museum will expand into the corner room (the other half of the 14th-century house), whose restoration is nearly complete. A new sequence of historical commentary accompanied by 17th-century engravings will be presented in that room, where the medieval fireplace will allow us to give special attention to food preparation in the Pilgrim period.

The new book Travellers and Sojourners - The Pilgrims, Leiden, and the Foundations of Plymouth Plantation will appear in 2008 or early 2009. About 650 pp. long, it answers many questions about the contributions of the Dutch exile period to the form and development of the Pilgrims' colony in New England.

The Museum will be publishing a second Pilgrim coloring book for 2009 - Beasts for Little Pilgrims, reproducing illustrations from a 1628 volume in the Museum collections.

A DVD that has been in preparation for the last couple of years (Dr. Gregory Hahn, producer) is expected to be completed for 2009.
