ELYRIA CEMETERY

This cemetery is located in Valley County, Nebraska, 
one mile south of Elyria in Elyria Precinct 
(20 N - R 15 - S 26). It was read by Margie Sobotka of 
Elkhorn, Nebr., and Dori Olson of Taylor, Nebr., 
August 1977. The cemetery was difficult to read as 
there were high weeds and prairie grass. Some families 
were grouped together in plots. The Shepard plot had a 
pipe fence around it, and the Fogt and Smidt plots 
had a regular fence around them. Many of the stones 
were carved out of natural rock. No doubt there were 
other burials in the cemetery, but some stones had 
fallen, and it appeared that some were underground.
