QUICK, Frank Sydney. Born February 17, 1876, at London, England. Son of John and Annie Quick. Educated at public schools, London, England. Came to Newfoundland in 1926 to assume manager-ship of Newfoundland Hotel. Married April 27, 1910 to Antonia Raymond, daughter of Augustus Raymond. One daughter, Annie. Managing Director of Newfoundland Hotel Facilities, Ltd., proprietors of the Newfoundland Hotel, Fort William, St. John's. Also for ten years manager of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Montreal, Quebec. One of the most popular and well-known hotel managers in Canada, to which country he came from South Africa in 1904. Was manager of the internationally famous Banff Springs Hotel, Alberta.
QUINTON, Herman William. Born October 26, 1896 at Red Cliffe, Bonavista Bay, son of J.B. and Sarah J. (Benger) Quinton. Educated at Anglican School and R.C. Academy, Openhall, Bonavista Bay. Engaged in school teaching 1913-1914 when became associated with Sir William Coaker in the Fishermen's Union Trading Co. Managed various branch stores and became dry goods superintendent. Enlisted in Newfoundland Regiment 1916. Served in France and Belgium. Took musketry and machine gun course at madras College, St. Andrew's-by-the Sea, Scotland, and Portsmouth, England and became first class instructor in Regiment. Trained or commission for St. John's College, Cambridge, and received Lieutenant's Commission 1918. Delegate, 1925, to British Empire League Conference, presided over by Field-Marshall Earl Haig, at Ottawa.Dominion Secretary-Treasurer of the Great War Veterans' Association of Newfoundland in 1924. After demobilization resumed association with Trading Company and later went with A.E. Hickman & Co. as travelling salesman. Married 1921 to Ella S. Blackmore.
