Rand's Open House

Rand House in 1900

On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Rand received their friends at their elegant and spacious new residence in which they have just got established, and the event brought together the largest assemblage ever seen in this place on a similar occasion, and was in every way a brilliant success. The house was brightly illuminated throughout, and Chinese lanterns were suspended around the piazza and at other points. Mr. and Mrs. Rand received their friends in the parlor, after which they nearly 200 people present admired the beautifully finished rooms, and their tasteful and elegant furnishings, and the words of praise were frequent and unstinted. After the guests were given time to inspect the house, refreshments consisting of cake, coffee, fruit, etc., were served in unstinted reply. As soon as all were served everybody repaired to the large hail upon the upper floor where Currier's orchestra furnished music for dancing until midnight in which a large number participated.

It is seldom our citizens attend an occasion of such hearty enjoyment, and from the time the host and hostess received their friends with a modest cordiality, until the last good night was said, mirth, good fellowship and pleasure reigned supreme. The company departed on the stroke of twelve, wishing that the future of Mr. and Mrs. Rand in their new home may be as pleasant and happy as the hours they had just passed had been delightful. The occasion will long be remembered with delight by all who were so fortunate to be present and enjoy the hospitalities so generously tendered.

Numerous letters of regret were received from out of town people who were unable to be present. Mr. Ernest A. Barney presented the guests to Mr. and Mrs. Rand in a most graceful, easy manner, and Harry Coburn and Ralph Gordon filled the position of bell boys most acceptably.
