A motion was made and approved to pay our dues to the N. H. Historical Society.

Charles Townsend has developed a web site dedicated to the history of Canaan:

                                www.rootsweb.com/~nhchs

He will post the minutes and dates of our meetings on this site.

Old Business:  Snow roller:   The Historic District Commission did not approve the construction of a platform & shelter for the roller.  They have requested more specific information as to its construction.   Jean Ricard will submit a picture to the commission.   Donna will apply for grant money.   Donna noted that the snow roller will be 100 years old next year, a celebration should be planned.   Ellen suggested the wearing of period clothing for the event.

New Business:

Programs:  Charles will invite Brenda Whitemore of UNH to speak on the hardships of mill workers.  Patsy suggested Gregory Schwartz from St. Gaudens might speak about the Shakers.

State of the Society:  Dan asked us to consider our plans for the Society and the Museum.  What changes and additions do the members want? A request was made for more explanatory notes on the items in the museum.  Patsy expressed her concern for the Museum structure noting that all three sides of the widow’s walk are now broken.   Members noted that the Selectman have not been forth coming with allocated funds for the repair of this town building.   And town personnel have not done the necessary work as promised.  Thus, it was decided to ask contractors to assess the structure.

A motion was made and approved to have President Fleetham bring back an answer from the Selectmen as to when the repairs will be done.

The next meeting will be held November 25th.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments followed.

                                                Respectfully submitted,

                                               Carol Bergeron
