Canaan Historical Society

                                                                                                Meeting of June 23, 2003

 President Dan Fleetham opened the meeting at 7 p.m. in the Canaan Museum.

 

Members present: President Dan Fleetham, Vice-pres. John Ricard, Treasurer Reg Barney, Historian & Corresponding Secretary Donna Zani Dunkerton, Secretary Carol Bergeron and members: Patsy Carter, Pete & Betty Cummings, Louise Kremzner, Ed Lary, Anne Neily, Charles Townsend

 

The minutes of the April 2003 meeting were accepted as read. 

 

Treasurer’s report was read and accepted. 

 

Old Business:  It was noted that the Enfield Methodist Church was looking for quilts to display on July 12^th.  Louise Kremzner mentioned that she owns a quilt related to Canaan history.  

 

Snow Roller: Dan asked when the Historic District Commission will hold its next meeting.  Carol Bergeron offered to follow up on the status of the application with Donna’s assistance.  John Ricard and Jean Ricard would also attend the HDC meeting.  Donna explained that David Zani has offered to do the excavating and grading work.  John Ricard suggested that we meet following adjournment to decide on the exact location of the snow roller. 

 

 Museum: will open on the 4^th of July.   Dan sent around a sign up sheet for members to work with Donna when the museum is open.

 

 National Trust for Historic Preservation: Donna said we were certified as members from 1971-1976.  Donna will investigate our getting re-instated.

 

                        Chuck Townsend successfully bid on two issues of the Canaan Reporter from 1872-3 which were offered on eBay.

 

New Business: It was decided that John Ricard and Patsy Carter would serve as Program Co-chairs.  Several suggestions were made for program topics:  Indian tribes of the area, towns of the upper valley, old tools, rail roads. 

 

Nominating Committee: The following members agreed to serve as a nominating committee and to meet following the adjournment and file their report with the Secretary: Louise Kremzner, Betty Cummings, Ann Neily. 

 

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments followed.

   

The next meeting will be held October 27, 2003 at the Canaan Senior Center
