                                                                                                Meeting of May 25, 2004

 

 President Dan Fleetham opened the meeting at 7 p.m. in the Senior Center.

 

Members present: President Dan Fleetham, Vice President John Ricard, Treasurer Reg Barney, Historian & Corresponding Secretary Donna Zani Dunkerton, Secretary Carol Bergeron and members: Pete & Betty Cummings, Patsy Carter, Ed & Jackie Lary, Dan Fleetham, Jr., John Bergeron, Paul Currier, Jean Ricard, Anne Neily, Nancy Snyder, Joanne Miller, Ellen & Dietrich Schauff, and guests: Ruth Tucker, Muriel Cole, Lorna & Robert Terhune.

 

The minutes of the March 29, 2004 meeting were read and accepted.

TreasurerÕs report was read and accepted. 

Correspondence was noted.

Old Business: There was no old business.

 

New Business: Dan announced that the selectmen wish to use the room in which we have our meeting on the fourth Monday of the month.  It was agreed that we would not accede to this

Donna announced that the school children would be visiting the Museum on New Hampshire History Day, June 4th.  She also advised us that our next meeting would be held at the Museum.

John Ricard discussed the plans for Old Home Days in August.  An art show will be held in the Meeting House.  The Museum will be open for the two days and it would be nice to have Jack Snyder play the Calliope one of those days.

Donna was thanked for getting ads in the Cardigan for our program.

The meeting was adjourned and Donna introduced our speaker.  Following the program,   refreshments were served. 

 

Mr. Robert Henderson of Enfield spoke on the history and maintenance of gravestones.  The state of NH mandates that towns must maintain their cemeteries.  The cleaning of gravestones should be done judiciously and without the use of bleach, detergents, or metal implements.  Mr. Henderson described his research on the ÒHook & EyeÓ gravestone maker, Gersham Bartlett of Norwich VT.  A recommended source for the care and upkeep of gravestones is the publication:
