                                                       Meeting of October 25, 2004

                                                                             Senior Center

 

President Dan Fleetham Sr. opened the meeting at 7 p.m.

 

      Members Present: President Dan Fleetham Sr., Historian and Corresponding Secretary Donna  Zani-Dunkerton, Reginald Barney, Treasurer, John Ricard,   Jackie Lary, Chuck Townsend, Nancy Snyder,  Pete and Betty Cummings,  and Dan Fleetham Jr.  The minutes of the June 28th meeting were read and accepted.

The Treasurers report was read and accepted.  We have $1,744.39 in checking and $2,209.70 in the Historical Trust Fund.. Dan Fleetham Jr. was asked to take minutes as Carol Bergeron was not in attendance.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

      Donna  Zani-Dunkerton  reported on the concrete for the Snow Roller platform-Don Lavigne will not be able to donate it.  David Zani is checking into other resources.  Donna will get an estimate on the cost of the structure to be built there.

     Dan Fleetham Sr. reported on his meeting with the selectmen on the Historical Society Meeting Date

Back to the fourth Monday.  Future meeting dates are: December 27, 2004; February 22, 2005; and April 25, 2005 at the Senior Center. Our June 27, 2005 meeting will be at the Museum on Cannan Street.. Members were reminded to save  the card they received in the mail for future reference.

     Donna indicated that the program about the Abenaki Indians had been postponed due to our meeting changing from Tuesday. John Ricard will check with the lady coordinating the program for a rescheduled date..

      Donna reported on two gravestones which were behind the old Canna Post Office building; they have been returned to Wells Cemetery and they will be  Òreset.Ó.

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

         John mentioned a special talk by Ken Cushing  on the Northern Railroad will take place at 7:00 PM  Oct 29, 2004 at the Grafton Town Hall. Members are invited to attend. There will be light refreshments with

Donations being accepted.

         The use of the  Historical Trust Fund  was discussed; It can be used for capital projects with Canaan town approval. A brief discussion ensued on the previous repair of the ÒWidowÕs WalkÓ at the Museum which ran about $3,200 a few years ago.

           Donna mentioned that the Museum is now closed for the year.

The subject of elections was discussed.  Reginald Barney made a motion that we keep the same officers for the ensuing year. Pete Cummings seconded the motion and our current officers were elected for another yearÉ

           Chuck Townsend brought up the need to update the Canaan information on the New Hampshire website.  Chuck agreed to check into what we need to do to get our information updated.

          Gary Hamel will be framing the Lumen Winter charcoal drawings at the Museum.  Dan Fleetham Sr. will follow up on this; Gary will be doing this over the winter.  Dan Sr. spoke about possibly having a show of  Lumen WinterÕs art at the museum next Summer.

      Dan Fleetham Jr. brought up looking into the possibility of getting donated bricks to form the foundation for the Roller as we have not been able to get concrete..  He will look into finding some donated bricks.

NOTE: since the meeting Donna was successful in getting a concrete donation and the pad is now poured.
