Meeting of January 23, 2006
Senior Center
President Dan Fleetham Sr.
opened the meeting at 7 p.m.
Members Present: Dan Fleetham Sr., John Ricard, Reggie
Barney, Donna Zani-Dunkerton, Jackie Lary, Jean Ricard, Anne Neily, Debbie
Crowell and guest speaker, Gary Wood.
The
minutes of the October 24th meeting were read and accepted. The
treasurerÕs report was read and accepted. We have $3,552.39 in the checking and
$2,350.55 in the Historical Trust Fund.
Donna was asked to take the minutes as our Secretary, Carol Bergeron was
not in attendance.
Dan
Sr. read some material sent to the historic society. Copies of old photos were
passed around that were thought to have a connection to Canaan. However, the
members did not recognize any of these people. Dan Sr. will return the photos
to the woman that sent them to the historical society.
It
was voted to keep the dates and months of the meetings as they are.
Donna reported that the artwork
presented to the historical society by Gary Hamel and other local artists are
displayed at the Canaan Town Library for the winter.
Donna
is working on the Museum report for the town report and will get it to Dan
Sr. The 2005 season brought 381
visitors to the Museum. Donna sold several town histories and we are now down
to one. It was voted to purchase 12 copies from the Higginson Book Co.
John
Ricard asked if anyone attended the special program on Noyes Academy at the
Wheelock Room of the Hanover Inn on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 9:00 AM. Donna stated that she went to the
program and commented that Professor Craig WilderÕs presentation left a lot to
be desired and that she was not pleased with the program.
Donna
reported on the Ledger that came from the Rand House; It contains numerous old
Canaan names that date back to 1857, but Donna was unable to determine what the
book was used for. Donna
reported that she had compiled some information and post cards of Canaan and
that she would give the material to Chuck Townsend at our next meeting so he
can put the article and pictures on the Historical Society Web Page.
Dan
Sr. reported that as far as he knows there has been no progress on the CD of
the Town History project by Chuck and Dan Jr.
Our
guest speaker, Gary Wood gave a very interesting talk on the progress of the
Down Town improvement project.
The
meeting was closed at 7:30 PM. The
next meeting will be at 7:00 PM on February 27, 2006 at the Senior Center.
Donna Zani-Dunkerton

meeting.
