                        Canaan Historical Society Meeting of June 26, 2006

 

The meeting was called to order by President Dan Fleetham at 7:00 p.m. in the Canaan Historical Museum.

 

Members present: President Dan Fleetham Sr., Secretary Carol Bergeron, Historian Donna Dunkerton and members: Patsy Carter, Pete & Betty Cummings, Ed & Jackie Lary, Anne Neily, Jean Ricard, Bob & Lorna Terhune.  John Ricard, Vice-president.

 

The minutes of the April 24 2006 meeting were read and corrected: Dan Fleetham is not president of the Old Home Day Committee.  Minutes accepted as amended.

 

TreasurerŐs report was read by Dan and accepted.

 

Old Business:  Dan said a blood drive was taking place thus Reg Barney and John Ricard were unable to attend the meeting.  (John arrived later)

Snowroller Project: The shelter will be constructed by Aaron and Larry Tibbets will put the roof on it and shingle it.  The funds for materials comes from the $1,800 grant from Mascoma Bank.

New Hampshire History Day: Donna reported that the day was celebrated on June 2nd with the Fourth graders.  Forty plus children participated in the scavenger hunt, caligraphy, candle dipping.  Richard Vincent provided horses and wagon for rides.

 

New Business: Dan explained that the Museum clock is wound once a week by Rob Schaefer.  The downtown clock is not working.  Ed Lary described the difficulties with that clock.

 

Donna reminded us that John Moody and his wife will be giving a presentation at the Old Meeting House on July 25th.  The topic is Abanaki/ Native History in the Mascoma Valley.

Jackie will coordinate refreshments with the help of Ann, Patsy, Donna, Jean, Lorna.

Motion  by John Ricard, second Patsy Carter, to expend up to $200 to advertise the program.  Motion passed.

 

Donna said that the art work has returned to the Museum from its storage at the library.

 

Our next meeting is October 23 rd at the Senior Center.
