The meeting was called to order by Pres. Dan Fleetham at
7:00 p.m. in the Senior Center
Members present: Pres. Dan Fleetham Sr, Treas. Reggie Barney, Rec. Sec. Carol Bergeron, Hist. & Corres. Sec. Donna Zani Dunkerton, and members: Pete & Betty Cummings, Patsy Carter, Dan Fleetham, Jr, John Bergeron, Jackie & Ed Lary, Jean Neily, Pam & Dave Webster.
Minutes of June 25, 2007 Meeting were read and
approved.
TreasurerŐs report was read and approved.
Correspondence: The New England Museum
Association is sponsoring a meeting to address the interests and needs of
Historical Societies in this area.
The meeting will take place October 25th at the New London
Historical Society.
Old Business: John
Bergeron reported on the condition of the Museum building and the Canaan
Improvement Committee (CIP). John will report to the town administrator the
rotting column on the building. Patsy questioned the wisdom of the CIP spending
$20,000 on a study of all town buildings.
John explained this study would assess current and future needs but it
has not yet been funded.
Carol reported that thank you
notes had been sent to the donors of memorial gifts in honor of John Ricard.
Reggie reported the receipt of another memorial gift of $25.00
New Business: Dan asked the meeting to appoint
Ed Lary as Vice-President and Ed
agreed to accept the position.
John Riccard Memorial donations: a
committee was formed to discuss the use of the funds: Donna, Carol, Dave,
Reggie, Patsy.
An information sign and fence are
needed for the snow roller. Donna reported that Dan Fleetham, Jr, donated a Main Street souvenir cup and saucer to the
Museum.
Dan, Jr. has cards for the
Sullivan Museum at Norwich University and reminded us about the Cardigan Art
AssociationŐs show being held at the Masonic Hall
John Bergeron reported that the
Historic District Committee is proposing that signs be made available for
purchase noting the age of historic houses in town (100 years and older). Ed asked if research would be done and
John said information would be required on application forms.
John also reported on the Canaan
Source Water Protection Committee which is applying for a grant from the State
DES. He requested that the meeting
approve a letter of support for the grant to be signed by Dan. Moved by Patsy, 2nd by Reggie,
approved.
It was moved that meetings will be held in January, February, April, June.
Meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be January 28,
2008.
