The meeting was called to order by Pres. Dan Fleetham at
7:00 p.m. in the Senior Center

Corres. Sec. Donna Dunkerton; members Pete & Betty Cummings, John Bergeron,

Minutes of March 25,
2008 Meeting were accepted.
TreasurerŐs report was read and approved. Reg noted the following
exceptional donations: Dr. Russell
Irvine and a matching grant from the Univ. Of Georgia and a donation of $600
from Mildred Nixon. Dr. Irvine has
worked with Donna and credited her for research on Noyes Academy.
New Business
John
Bergeron explained the Historical Marker Program started by the Historic
District Commission. Home owners
throughout Canaan will be encouraged to purchase, at cost, markers detailing
the ages of their houses. Chuck
said the information gathered could be useful for a database.
Kimball
House: Dan appointed Chuck as chair of the committee. Chuck announced the Kimball House Project has been chosen by
NH Public Radio to participate in their program ÓGiving MattersÓ. Chuck explained the goal of securing
grant funding to do a feasibility study of the house and its possible use. It was moved by Chuck and
seconded by Patsy to have the Canaan Historical Society apply for a grant from
the Historic Preservation Trust.
Ed moved for a paper ballot.
Vote: 8 Yes, 6 No, 1 Abstention.
Motion passed.
After
much discussion, Carol moved and Chuck seconded to have the Historical Society
obligate $2500 from their working funds as a matching funding to the National
Trust Preservation grant if efforts to solicit from private sources is
unsuccessful. By paper ballot the
vote was 7 Yes, 8 No. Motion
failed.
During
discussion of the Kimball House, Donna mentioned the poor condition of the
pillars at the Museum. Judith
asked if a warrant article would succeed.
The
Museum will open July 4th weekend. The next meeting will be held at the Museum on July 28th.
