Jesse and his brother Moses (1808-1842) were deeded
their fathers land in 1836 (recieved 1839). Jesse' sons Jesse
and Frank kept the farm for a while, Jesse deeding it
to Harry Blanchard in 1934. The farm burned to the ground in
1939.
One of the prosperous farmers of Sandwich, with outlying pastures
for his cattle and well tilled fields at home. His cattle were
generally of such good quality that buyers usually headed his way.
The crops of potatoes, corn and other grains were more than ample
for the needs of the family and surplus was traded at the local
stores (Sandwich Excursion Books). His farm was on Upper Rd.,
Sandwich.
Sandwich Reporter; Sept. 1, 1892 - Jesse Mudgett of this
town; a man 80 years old, made his 1st trip on the cars from West
Ossipee to North Conway last Tues. to attend the coaching parade.
Should read "Jesse' grandsons Jesse and Frank", not "Jesse' sons
Jesse and Frank".
