| MORGAN GEORGE
ALDRICH
HUNTER
|
I'm in the Albuquerque, NM, area, but come from the Morgan family of Lisbon, NH. My great-grandfather,
Sylvanus D. Morgan - "S.D." was a well-known builder of NH hotels, the 3rd Mt. Washington Tip-Top House, etc. He married
Kathryn Elizabeth Sumner George in Oct. 1883 in Franconia. Before marrying S.D., Kathryn had been married to
Emery Aldrich and had a child - Calvin W. Aldrich (abt. 1/1880).
In the 1860 census (Whitefield), I found "Elizabeth" (age 3) in Whitefield with her parents -
William J. George and (Emma?) Louisa (Hunter), along with siblings Louisa (13), & Albert W. (9). Wm. was a blacksmith. In 1870, they were in Littleton (& she was listed as "Katie E") and in 1880 in Franconia (at which time "Kate," Emery & Calvin - 5 months - were living with Wm. & Lousia (sic).
I would love to find out more about the George family. I also have some tintype pictures which I'm assuming are of the George family because one of the photos has some cardboard on the back which has "Whitefield" printed on it and one is dated 1860. There are also 2 photos of military young men - Civil War, I'm assuming.
I have been gifting items to some museums and am considering doing such with the tintypes. Can you give me any input on who I might correspond with - whether Whitefield has a museum or whether a state or regional museum might be a better option.
Thanks for any information you can give me.
