Time line of history culminated by founding of Belfast

9000 BC Ice age glaciers sufficiently receded northward and the Irish Sea was still 300 feet lower than, for hunters and gatherers to walk around a fresh water lake and walk to Antrim from Wales and Scotland. Glaciers still clung to mountain crevices and in the shaded glens of Antrim for centuries.

7000 BC - 700 BC begins the Mesolithic followed by the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. This era ushered in the acquired skills of metal working which made manufacturing of superior weapons.

700 BC - 399 AD

Reconstructed Iron Age fort.

Celtic peoples entered and brought iron weapons and horses.

 

400 - 799 The early Christian era of Ireland
800 - 1169 Vikings came to Ireland to raid monastic sites and set up trading centers.
