Surname: HEARD / MACDONALD / LAPIERRE / FAULKNER / COOKE/COOK / STORY
Date: Wednesday, November 26, 1997 at 12:29:42
Query:

Need background of John HEARD who married Margaret MacDonald and was Earl of Tyrone in Aiglish, County Tyrone; also into on son Stephen Heard. John Heard, whose family emigrated from Wiltshire, England, had a land grant at Baden where settled, died and was buried. His will was dated 20 Apr 1619 and he died shortly afterward. His son John was born right after his death There is a pedigree of the Heards, chiefly of County Cork, compiled by Sir Gilbert King, Bart which cited Heards in the counties of Galway, Kilkenny and Meath 1661-1669. Of the Heards who settled in Aiglish, County Tyrone, John, the earl of Tyrone came to America in 1719-1720, bringing with him six sons and five daughters, leaving his eldest, Stephen, to settle his affair before he, too, came over. I believe John and his sons Charles, John, Jesse, Thomas,James and George came in to Charleston S.C. where he was remarried to an Esther LaPierre. From South Carolina they all went to Virginia. A year or two later Stephen came over and was married to Mary Faulkner and they became (in due time--like 3 centuries) my seventh great-grandparents. On 12 De. 1773, they arrived in Wilkes County, Georgia, and the next day began cutting down trees to make lumber fortheir new home. Stephen's son Thomas was a grandfather and his brother was elected governor of Georgia and even a county in Georgia was named for him. This is positively all I know except Thomas' daughter, Mary, married John Drury Cooke, and that has been our family surname down to my mother, Julee Cook, who married a Story.Surely appreciate anything you can find!
