Surname: ASHFIELD
Location: Toronto, ON Canada
Date: Sunday, December 28, 1997 at 15:27:14
Query:

I would like to get in touch with anyone researching ASHFIELD in County Tyrone (or elsewhere in Ireland). Specifically, there were several ASHFIELDs came to Canada in the 1830s, namely William, James, Alexander and Hanson ASHFIELD. William settled in Toronto, Ontario. James & Alexander both settled near Ottawa, Ontario. Hanson settled in Fredericton, New Brunswick. All stated in censuses that they came from County Tyrone. The only one I've been able to find more on is William ASHFIELD who was born circa 1770 in the parish of Carnteel, County Tyrone (according to army records). However, parish records for Carnteel don't start until the 1800s. So where do I go from here? Any ideas anyone?

Name: Donna Ristenbatt
Email:

Surname: ROGERS/MORRISON
Date: Monday, December 8, 1997 at 10:29:57
Query:

I was told that my ancestors were from the Presbyterian parish of Aughnacloy in County Tyrone, Ireland. I have since discovered that there is a parish of Aughnacloy in County Tyrone under the civil parish of Carnteel and also a small Methodist parish of Aughnacloy, also in County Tyrone. Since this seems to make 3 parishes with the name Aughnacloy, can someone explain why the same name for 3 different parishes? Maybe I have been trying to find my ancestors in the wrong parish. The information I have may be incorrect also, but I would like to leave no stone unturned, as it has been very difficult trying to find my ROGERS/MORRISON ancestors in Ireland. I only know they came to America in 1846 according to the 1900 population census which I just discovered for my Thomas Rogers. The census taker had incorrectly spelled the Rogers surname. Thus I had to go page by page on the census. Regards, Donna Ristenbatt
