Searching for additional info regarding the Glenn family from which my grandmother originated before departing for USA in 1915. I do know of her parents, Eliza(beth) Black Glenn and Joseph Glenn who are buried in Plumbridge. My grandmother, Annie, had 7 siblings only 6 had survived infancy. William, Rebecca (Beck), Joseph (who left for USA), Eliza, Margaret (who also left for USA, settled in Somerset, MA) and Sarah (buried in Glenelly, 1963). Would appreciate further info since my visit to her birthplace, Aughalane, brought very little information. I do have communication with Beck's and Sarah's current families, but they do not know any more than I do. Thanks if you can help!

Surname: TOLAND
Location: Deer Park, TX USA
Date: Friday, May 29, 1998 at 21:56:36

My TOLAND family was supposed to have been from Newtown Stewart, County Tyrone, according to family history. Hugh and Mary TOLAND migrated to South Carolina in the late 1790's and settled in Newberry County. Children were John, Andrew, Hugh Jr., James, Andrew, Sarah, and Mary. All were born in Ireland, except Mary we are not sure about. Other families that MIGHT have migrated with them were Glasgows, Spences, and Dugans. Other Tolands were in Newberry Co., SC, who had arrived much earlier but were probably related. They were Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph TOLAND.

I'm trying to locate the birth and marriage records of my maternal ggrandparents, John McGarrity and Bridget Diver. John was born in about 1826 and Bridget in about 1827. They were married in 1853/54, and we think they lived in Donaghmore. They had three children in Ireland before leaving to live in Durham, England. Michael, their first child was born in 1854, Anthony was born in 1857 and Thomas, 1860. John used the surname Garrity in the U.K. census, but retained McGarrity in the Catholic church records. Name: Debbie Noblesmith
Surname: DOBBINS
Location: Saco, ME USA
Date: Thursday, May 21, 1998 at 21:12:24

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather was Thomas Dobbins, who arrived in New Brunswick in 1826. Our family descended from his union with a Mary Ann Daley, with whom he had a large family in Lindsay, Carleton Co., NB. However, I have just uncovered his will and the probate papers which followed (he died in 1881), and he left everything to his daughter Mary who was living in Scotland. Looking in the Land Registry, she is mentioned as the wife of James McHugh, and of Glasgow, Scotland. But the interesting bit in this same record is that a Lydia Dobbins is listed as the widow of the deceased Thomas Dobbins! She is mentioned as being from Co, Tyrone, a place called Lettercans, which I can't seem to find anywhere. This would explain why we've not been able to find a marriage record for Thomas and Mary Ann. I would like to find out more about this Lydia Dobbins, perhaps find the marriage record for her and Thomas(he was Catholic). Also wonder about any other Dobbins who may be related. Are there any Dobbins in the area now?

McTarsney, John, 1823 Co.Tyrone (weaver,on ship's list) believed to be cattholic, came to USA 1843, to Scott Co. Indiana. His mother's name was Bridget, and believe she also came to USA, as did brother Patrick McTarsney, sisters Elizabeth McTarsney and Mrs. James ( Jane) Mellon.Father (name not known) believed to have died before 1836,when Elizabeth left Co. Tyrone. All came to New Orleans, Louisiana before going to Scott Co. IN It is believed they lived near Armagh or Omagh. I would greatly appreciate help on this family in Ireland. The name is probably misspelled, but do not know what the correct spelling should be. They could read and write, and they always spelled it this way since coming to America, but others made many mistakes on the names, as in the civil war, it was spelled McTorsey. Thanks,

My gggfather, John Corr, married Mary Corcoran, from Longford, in Montreal in 1831. In 1831 John Corr's father, Terence, was deceased, but his mother, Sarah Mallon, was living in Tyrone. Hence I asssume that the Corr/Mallon union took place in Tyrone around the turn of the century. If anyone has any knowledge of the Corr/Mallon lines, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. In return, I would be happy to pursue genealogical research, especially in New York, Ohio or Indiana records.

Name: Claire Keenan Agthe
Location: Brooklyn, NY USA
Date: Saturday, May 9, 1998 at 23:12:09

Am looking for information on my grandparents, both from Kildress, Co. Tyrone. Grandfather John (Johnnie) Keenan, born c.1883, emigrated to US between 1901 and 1910 (probably 1903 or so). Siblings Arthur, Mary Ellen (Minnie), Anne, Sarah all came to US; siblings Bridget, Patrick, and Michael stayed in Ireland. Their mother, Ann (Nancy?) (possibly McGurk) was still alive in Ireland when my grandfather died in US in 1921. All except Sarah and Mary Ellen are in 1901 census index, listed as from Killucan. Also seeking info on my grandmother, Ellen Marie ("Nellie") McGurk (b. c.1878-1880), emigrated to US 1904 from Liverpool. Siblings Catherine ("Kate") and Elizabeth ("Liz") came to US; siblings Mary, Bridget (Liz's twin), Michael, and Cornelius ("Neal") stayed in Kildress; family may be from Doons. Both the Keenans and the McGurks who emigrated went to Phila. (where my family still is). Any info would be much appreciated. Have plenty of info on American relatives to share. Also: My grandfather's sister, Ann(e)(a) Keenan b. c.1888 in Killucan, married John J. Keenan, b. c.1886, possibly from Kilmakardle, Pomeroy (the Pomeroy is pretty definite). Both emigrated to US (possibly were married here). Any info re the Pomeroy branch of Keenans would also be most appreciated.
