Location: Seattle, WA US
Date: Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at 02:02:48
Query:

Searching for information on McCouns, who emigrated from County Donegal but llived in County Tyrone some time prior to 1739. Francis McCoun married Margaret Patterson, daughter of John Patterson and Agnes Moffett of County Tyrone, and his father was Malcolm McCown. I believe they were related to Clan Colquhoun members who colonized County Tyrone at "Crosh House" beginning in 1620. Most of these Colquhouns emigrated to Maryland under the name Calhoun, but it is believed the McCouns represented the Colquhoun clan in the Borden Grant, Virginia, c. 1740. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Can exchange what I know of McCowns in Virginia.

Hello all! I am the new host for the Co. Louth page on GenTree and also have my own family page. I am searching for any and all SHORTTs, with two T's having orginated from Co. Tyrone. The farthest back I have traced my Shortt line is to the late 1700's in Drogheda, Co. Louth, but we think the name was orginally Mac an Ghirr from Co. Tyrone and that our Shortts migrated, changed thier names and converted to Catholisism to escape persecution, perhaps for Paganism?! Anyone with any ideas please do email me at jacki@nettally.com and/or visit my site at http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/5047/ Thanks, J Barber

Name: Carol Culbertson
Email:culbert@inxpress.net
Surname: CULBERTSON
Location: Monona, WI USA
Date: Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at 22:49:35
Query:

James Culbertson along with wife Jane and children James (Elizabeth Youtsey), Margaret (Kyle), Sidney (James Taylor), William (Jane Reese, Nancy White), Allen (Esther Greer), Robert (Maria Gregg), Sarah (George Youtsey), and Mary immigrated to USA about 1812 or earlier from County Tyrone, Ireland. They settled in Campbell/Kenton County, Kentucky. A newspaper article was published after an interview with William Culbertson. This article described the family's experiences in 1690 when Cormac O. Devlin protected the Culbertson "mansion" during conflicts between King William's followers and King James' followers. Supposedly King James' men attempted to destroy the mansion 7 times, but each time were thwarted by O. Devlin. In return Devlin earned the honor of marrying a Culbertson daughter he had been refused earlier. Is there any way to verify this story and determine where these families might have lived?
