A sad accident occurred on Saturday last (December 26, 1857) near Slab causeway, which resulted in the death of Samuel K. Budd, Esq., The particulars, as we have learned them, are as follows: Mr. Budd, who resided within about a mile of Buddtown, started from home with his son, on Saturday morning, for Jones' Mill, for two loads of Rails, --Mr. Budd driving a pair of horses, and his son a pair of mules. They procured the Rails and left the Mill about 12 o'clock, Mr. Budd taking the lead, and as the horses walked considerably faster than the mules, he got some distance ahead. The wagon which his son was driving, broke down, making the distance still greater between them. On going down a hill near the Crossway, Mr. Budd was walking behind the wagon, and his horses starting off, he feared they might get away, and he made an effort to go ahead of them. As he was about to pass the horses, one of them became frightened and jumped aside, and either threw Mr. Budd down or he slipped under them, when both the fore and hind wheel passed over his body. His horses continued on to Samuel Haines'. He was left lying in the road for over an hour, when his son came up with the other team--and shortly after, E. S. Malsbury, who was returning from Jones' Mill came along. Mr. Budd was put into Mr. Malsbury's wagon, and although severely injured and suffering great pain, he was able to tell how the accident occurred. They came on with him as rapidly as his painful situation would allow, and upon reaching Samuel Haines', some blankets were procured, to make him more comfortable. They then started for home, but within about three miles of Mr. Budd's residence, he expired in great agony. The sad occurrence caused the deepest sorrow throughout the entire neighborhood. Mr. Budd was a very worthy man, a consistent member of the Methodist church, and one who had the entire confidence of his large circle of relatives and acquaintances--all of whom feel that they have lost a valuable member of society and a true friend. Mr. Budd was about 67 years of age. (NJ Mirror Thursday December 31, 1857)

{In Jobstown, July 15, 1878, Solomon S. Middleton, Sr.—NJ Mirror}
{Solomon S. Middleton, who departed this life, July 15th, 1878, at Jobstown, was a highly respected citizen of Burlington County, having resided in the county all his life with the exception of 9 years, which were spent in Hoboken, Hudson County, having been engaged in furnishing the horses and men for the operation of the horse railroads running out of that city. During his stay there he was selected from the 3d ward to represent that District as a Freeholder, which position he held satisfactorily four years, having held the same position in Burlington County with the same satisfactory results. Being a man of strictly pure morals, generous, liberal; and honest in all business transactions; no possible distinction in the social scale of life, not catering in any way to caste, he naturally had many friends, who will miss him. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Pemberton over forty years, a devout Christian, a kind and devoted husband, and generous and most liberal father. He was in the full vigor of all business qualifications at the time of his prostration last March, and up to the time of his death retained all of his mental faculties, and as life gradually faded expressed every minute wish in respect to his body, being apparently cognizant that his time was drawing to a close. He exhibited wonderful Christian fortitude and patience during the last weeks of his life, which were attended with great physical suffering.—NJ Mirror 24 July 1878}

{After suffering for several months with illness diagnosed as multiple cirrhosis, a general hardening of the arteries, William H. Heisler, President of the Manufacturers’ National Bank of Philadelphia, died at his home on Main Street, Pemberton, shortly after midnight on Saturday 4 December 1915. Some time ago, Mr. Heisler went to Wernersville, Pennsylvania, where it was hoped that treatment at a sanitarium might result beneficially. There was no apparent change for the better, however, and he returned home late in the Fall. At that time the progress of his ailment had been such that he had slight use of his lower limbs. By the exercise of strong will power he was able to attend the wedding of his son William H. Heisler,Jr., whose bride was Miss Ethel Budd, at the Methodist Church in Pemberton in October. Shortly after that Mr. Heisler became confined to his bed and continued in that condition up to the time of his death. The deceased was a man of many good works which he performed with a characteristic lack of ostentation. He was active in his interest in public affairs and his desire for civic betterment although never himself seeking public office. A member of the Methodist Episcopal Church he was prominent in many of the activities of the church and the organizations connected with it. He was Vice President of the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension Society of the Methodist Church of America; a member of the Ocean Grove Association; superintendent of the Sunday School, and a member of the board of trustees of his local church. Mr. Heisler was born in Pemberton on 19 November 1842, and acquired his education in the schools of the town. When still in his early ‘teens, he went to Mount Holly, entering the drug store of Austin R. Haines on Main Street. Later he was a clerk in the Mount Holly National Bank and left there when he was made cashier of the Seventh National Bank, of Philadelphia. Several years later he left this position to become cashier of the Manufacturers’ National Bank, to the presidency of which he was promoted in 1888. Mr. Heisler held this post up to the time of his death. The deceased was connected with a number of other business concerns as well as a member of several social and fraternal organizations, among them: Treasurer of the Schlicter Jute and Cordage Company; director of the Camden and Burlington County Railway Company; member of the Union League and Manufacturers’ Club, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania Historical Society; member of the Masonic fraternity; and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Seaman’s Friendly Society.
