Captain Daniel Vliet was born at Six Mile Run, now Franklin Park, Somerset
County, New Jersey. He married Geertuitje Springsteen on 16 November 1746 at age 20 and
later moved to Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, settling along the Musconetcong
River near Bloomsbury and West Portal.
He served in the Revolutionary War militia for multiple terms and was captain of a company
in the Second Regiment, Hunterdon County militia. He also served as captain under Colonel Mark
Thompson, First Regiment, Sussex County militia, for a term. At least two of his sons served under him,
namely, David and Daniel, Jr. Other sons who also participated in the war included John, Jasper,
William, and Garret. A daughter, Margaret Vliet Warne, known affectionately as "Peggy Warne,"
provided patriotic service.
Our goals as members of the Captain Daniel Vliet Chapter, NSDAR, are to
actively participate in the following:
- Welcome new members and mentor and support them into chapter activities
- Emphasize and encourage hospitality and friendliness in all activities
