Aylesford Chapter was formed in 1904, using the title from Charles Peterson's
novel, “Kate Aylesford.”
Mr. Peterson used the real life woman,
Honoria Read, as his model for the fictitious character, “Kate Aylesford.” Honoria was the daughter of Charles Read, owner of the Elijah Clark Mansion. She
was a beautiful, vivacious young lady who entertained lavishly at the mansion
during Revolutionary War times.
The Elijah Clark Home is now known as
the Kate Aylesford Mansion.
