ABOUT DAR MEMBERSHIP
Kate
Aylesford chapter members will warmly welcome you, as a guest, or a prospective
member, at our meetings. If you are interested in membership in our chapter, and
are researching a patriot in your family tree, we can advise, and help you with
your research. If you would like to attend one of our meetings, or have a question
about DAR membership, please contact our registrar, Joan Young.
ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP
Any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age
and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving
American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth,
marriage, and death.
The NSDAR
web site provides information on how to begin, or continue, your genealogical
research, and how to become a member of the DAR.
If you want to know if a known ancestor is recognized by the
DAR as a Revolutionary War Patriot,
please check the Genealogical Research System on the NSDAR website. The GRS is a combination of several extensive genealogical databases and contains names of Revolutionary patriots, both men and women, whose service (between 1775 and 1783) has been established by the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Additional information available may include: dates and places of birth and death, name(s) of wife (wives) or husband(s) and children, rank, type of service and the state where the patriot lived or served.
Please remember that not every Revolutionary patriot is included in this list, but only those who are ancestors of NSDAR members. A recent addition to the GRS is the ability to order and download copies online of any application(s) that you believe will help in your own research and application.
