Will of Charles Hole. 1749 Spelling as shown on original document: In the name of God Amen. I, Charles Hole of the Borough of Elizabeth, Schoolmaster, being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God, therefore do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following; now, first of all for the payment of my just debts I give and devise all my house, barn and land, which I purchased of Joseph Marsh last spring, unto my Executor hereafter named to them and to each of their heirs and assigns upon this condition, they my sd Executors shall sell my said house, barn and land in the best manner they can and with the money it is sold for, to pay my said debts and if that is not sufficient to pay the rest out of my movable estate. I give my suns Charles Hole, Daniel Hole, John Hole, Sarah Marsh, Elizabeth Hole and Lieucretia Hole, each of them the sum of five shillings in money or equivalent, when my daughter Lieucretia is eighteen years of age. All the rest of my movable estate that remains, after my just debts are paid out of it, I give and bequeath to Sarah Hole, my dearly beloved wife, the use and improvement of it as long as she continueth my widow, but if she should marry again, then my will is that she shall take as the law directs of my said movable estate and the remainder of my said movable estate shall be equally divided between all my children, suns and daughters, part and part alike. _____ my will is that my daughter, Elizabeth, shall f___ly take or carry away, her chest of drawers that she workt for herself and oval table and iron traumsol? that she work for herself. I due hereby anominate and appoint my loving sun-in-law Joshua Marsh and my loving friend Andrew Craig, Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I pray you my Executors in the name of God, two fulfill this my last Will and Testament according to the true intent and meaning thereof. In witness whereof I the said Charles Hole have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of November Anno Domini 1749. Charles Hole Signed Sealed and declared by the said Charles Hole as his last Will and Testament in the presents of us the subscribers, William Peirson, John Davis Junr, Elizabeth Peirson. Be it remembered that on the second day of December 1749, before me Thomas Bartow, duly authorized to prove wills in New Jersey, personally came William Peirson and John Davis Junr., two of the within witnesses who being sworn on the holy Evangelist, do depose that they were present and saw Charles Hole, this Testator within named, sign and seal the within written Will and ____ him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind and memory to the best of their judgments and as they ___ believe and that at the same time Elizabeth Peirson was present and signed as a witness as did they also each sign as a witness in the Testators presence and the said John ____ saith that he wrote he will and made his interlineations(?) by order of the Testator before signing and sealing.
