Our Mission

The Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization dedicated to preserving, restoring and interpreting New Jersey's irreplaceable railroad, bus, truck, canal, trolley and ferry transportation artifacts and their history.

We support the creation of a Transportation Heritage Center located in multiple sites around the Garden State.

Our membership (over 400) consists of individuals and organizations who share that vision and want to assist in its completion.

The organization's hub is Phillipsburg's Union Train Station that is being restored to its 1914 era architecture.

Over 200 truckloads of archives, artifacts, supplies and materials for the Heritage Center have been secured and moved to Phillipsburg. At the same time, Lakewood, NJ, houses more than a dozen vintage buses. And there are other sites housing antique trucks and trolleys.

Having interest in diverse transportation modes but united in purpose, we seek to provide focused docents in each area as listed below.
